Pet insurance reimburses owners directly — most plans don't pay providers up front. We accept payment at the time of surgery and provide a full itemized invoice plus all medical records and discharge documentation needed for your claim. Many of our clients have been reimbursed without issue from Trupanion, Healthy Paws, Embrace, ASPCA, Nationwide, and Spot.

No referral required. You can contact us directly, send us any imaging or notes you have, and we'll work up the case independently. That said, we love working with referring vets — if your primary wants to be involved, we coordinate with them throughout.

We aim to return quotes inside the hour during business hours. From there, most non-emergency surgeries are scheduled within 1–2 weeks. Emergency capacity is honored when our schedule allows — call us directly for time-sensitive cases and we'll do everything we can.

A TPLO is a way of stabilizing the joint by changing the angle between the femur and tibia, reducing the amount that the tibia shifts forward during a stride. Dr. Simon makes a semicircular cut through the top of the tibia, rotates the piece of bone that was cut, and fixes it in place with a locking plate and screws. As Dr. Simon closes up the incision, she injects a long-acting local anesthetic throughout each tissue layer so the patient remains comfortable in the days following the procedure.

We sure do. Though dogs require TPLO surgeries more frequently, Dr. Simon is very experienced with cat TPLO surgeries as well.

Dr. Simon usually recommends a TPLO technique over any other, as it has the highest success rate. However, there are other options for CCL repairs that Dr. Simon might consider when evaluating your pet's particular case.

The total recovery time after a CCL repair typically takes about 6 weeks. During this time, physical rehabilitation will be necessary to combat muscle atrophy, joint scar tissue, and reduced range of motion. At each recheck appointment, our team will also use Cold Laser Therapy on the surgery site to accelerate the healing process. If you are interested, we also offer PRP Therapy.

After 6 months, we typically see our patients return to full function, minus the degree of arthritis that is already present. SVS offers as many free recheck appointments as needed.

Since our SVS team focuses on small animal surgery, we have refined our skills and can offer the highest quality surgical medicine for the price. Dr. Simon performs multiple TPLOs on a weekly basis. She is now an expert at the locking TPLO technique and is frequently complimented because of her excellent incision lines.

Yes — we operate on cats and dogs of all sizes. Cats present some unique anesthesia and surgical considerations, and Dr. Simon has years of experience with feline cases including TPLO, soft tissue, and dental surgery.

Every flat-rate package includes one in-clinic rehab session with Dr. Simon (she's a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist, CCRT). Plus a take-home rehab plan tailored to your pet's procedure, breed, and age. For complex cases that benefit from extended rehab, we can add a multi-session package — including cold-laser therapy, PRP injections, and progressive exercise protocols.

Sometimes. Partial CCL tears in older or smaller dogs can occasionally be managed with PRP therapy, weight management, and modified activity. Canine elbow arthritis often responds to a single Synovetin OA injection — up to a year of relief without daily NSAIDs.

If we don't think surgery is the right call, we'll say so. Dr. Simon only recommends procedures that are in the best interest of the patient.

Most clients pick whichever office is closer to home. SVS-Lynwood (11644 Atlantic Ave) is our primary surgical clinic and handles most TPLO and complex orthopedic cases. SVS-Sherman Oaks (14302 Ventura Blvd) serves the Valley and shares the same surgical standards.
