Orthopedic surgery · Specialty practice
Specialty orthopedic surgery.
Orthopedic surgery covers everything from a luxating patella to a complex tibial fracture. Each case is treated with low-stress handling, advanced pain control, and comprehensive post-operative care — by a surgeon who performs these procedures every day, not a generalist who does a few a month.
What we treat
A focused orthopedic practice.
Common procedures we perform: cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) repair via TPLO or lateral suture; fracture repair across long bones; luxating patella correction (grades I–IV); hip dysplasia procedures including FHO and total hip replacement consults; and complex limb-sparing procedures for cancer or trauma.
We also accept referrals for elbow dysplasia, OCD lesions, growth-plate fractures in young dogs, and revision surgeries after a previous repair didn't hold.
Why a specialty surgeon
Repetition compounds.
Orthopedic outcomes track closely with how often a surgeon performs that specific procedure. A generalist who repairs three fractures a year and a specialist who repairs three a week are not running the same playbook — they're making different micro-decisions about plate selection, screw torque, soft-tissue handling, and pain protocol.
Dr. Simon focuses on small-animal surgery exclusively. Combined with her CCRT certification (canine rehab), that focus extends past the operating room into how the joint heals and whether your pet gets back to full function.
Recovery
Same-day discharge for most cases.
Most orthopedic patients go home the same day they have surgery. We discharge them with detailed instructions, take-home pain medication, and a recovery plan that includes a free recheck, follow-up x-rays, a cold-laser session, and a visit with our certified rehab therapist.
Typical full-recovery timeline runs 6–12 weeks depending on the procedure, the patient's age, and how strictly the rest/activity restrictions are followed.
Common questions
Quick answers.
Do you do TPLO and luxating patella in the same surgery?
Sometimes — Dr. Simon evaluates each pet's case to decide whether to combine procedures or stage them. If they can be done safely in one anesthetic event we'll quote both as a single flat-rate package.
My dog has hip dysplasia. Do you do total hip replacement?
We perform FHO (femoral head ostectomy) and refer total hip replacement candidates to a coordinating specialist. We'll handle the consult and quote either way.
Do you treat cats with orthopedic injuries?
Yes. Cats often need fracture repairs and CCL surgery just like dogs, and Dr. Simon performs both. Cat orthopedic cases are scheduled the same way as canine ones.
